About Your Coach

Gerard Friedman has a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. Employing a method of assessing and reassessing clients with proven metrics of growth and improvement to personalize exercises to each client’s needs. His main training influence derives from the physical therapy based Postural Restoration Institute and Functional Movement Systems.

As Gerard, the continuing education junkie, has learned more about the holistic process of health and wellness, he has come to realize that there is way more to health than just exercise and diet. What he has settled on are the four major fundamentals: Diet, Exercise, Sleep and Stress management. If you want to reach your goal weight, all 4 must be dialed in. If you want to sleep better at night, if you want to stress less at work and away from your desk, if you want to improve your overall quality of life, you must master these fundamentals. Lastly, if you want to prevent metabolic disease and illness, this is the road you want to follow.

Health Coaching

Step 1: 

Initial nutrition consultation. 1 hour together @ 5th Ave Fitness. 

Discuss the 4 pillars of health: nutrition, sleep, stress management, and exercise. 

Learn where you fall short, and strategies to improve upon those areas of weakness. 

Objective measurements: Body fat %, total body weight, circumference measurements, resting blood pressure, resting heart rate. 

Subjective measurements: A quality of life questionnaire 

*These measurements will be re-done at the end of your 30 days for evaluation purposes. 

Step 2: 

Gerard writes you a personalized 30-day meal plan based off the findings of your food journal, with respect to GI issues, body fat %, height, weight, age, daily energy expenditure, and personal goals. 

Gerard will also provide specific recommendations for stress management, sleep quality, and exercise (when not in the gym). 

Step 2 is done on Gerard’s time and will be emailed to you. Gerard will also be available throughout the 30 days by phone or e-mail with any questions or concerns you may have.

Step 3: 

After 30 days, you re-assess. 1 hour together @ 5th Ave Fitness. Gerard will re-take your objective measurements, as well as ask you to do the subjective questionnaire again. Results will then be compared to step 1. The re-evaluation will reveal if you are on the right track, have made progress and reached anticipated goals. 

If all goes to plan, in step 3, you will learn how to re-introduce foods that were removed from your diet during the 30-day meal plan.
